As a driver, I consider my greatest pride to be that I haven't been caught by the electronic cameras even once in the 15 years since I got my driver's license. However, there are some drivers who constantly get tickets, which makes them very frustrated and puzzled about what they might have done wrong. Today, I'd like to share with you six pieces of experience.
1. Pay attention to the no-entry sign
The prohibited lanes mentioned here are not limited to odd-even number restrictions, but also include one-way streets, bus lanes, non-motorized vehicle lanes, emergency lanes on highways, etc.
2. Pay attention to the crease line
You cannot cross any solid lines on the road, which is the most basic rule. The most common violation of crossing lines occurs within the solid lane markings at intersections, such as changing lanes by crossing solid lines, turning too early, or turning with the rear wheels crossing the solid lane markings. As long as there is an electronic surveillance camera at the intersection, these situations will be captured.
However, there is an exception for a situation involving dashed and solid lines. If your side is marked with a dashed line, you can still drive over it even if the other side is marked with a solid line. This is similar to the situation depicted in the image below.
Secondly, the white diagonal lines and V-shaped lines on the road are called lane dividers, which should also not be crossed.
The grid lines are usually located at the entrance of government agencies. You can drive over them during normal traffic conditions, but you cannot stop within the grid line area when encountering traffic jams or waiting at red lights.
Another type is the yellow diagonal line, which indicates a no-go area. Just treat it like a big pit.
Lastly, there is the stop line at the intersection. When the traffic light is red, you cannot cross the stop line; otherwise, you will receive a ticket for "violating prohibited markings".
3. Pay attention to the sidewalk
When driving on the sidewalk, there are two main points to note. First, always yield to pedestrians. Second, when making a U-turn at an intersection, never turn within the sidewalk area. Instead, drive past the sidewalk before making the U-turn.
For example, in the picture above, there are double yellow lines on the left side, indicating that it is clearly not allowed to make a U-turn by crossing the lines. And there is a sidewalk in front, so it can only make a U-turn after crossing the sidewalk when the green light for left turning is on.
4. Pay attention to various traffic signs and markings
There are four types of traffic signs: prohibitory signs, warning signs, guide signs, and regulatory signs. For example, speed limit signs belong to prohibitory signs, and generally, wherever there is a speed measurement, there must be a speed limit sign. In addition, there are signs such as no U-turn and no parking.
Warning signs are generally used to alert drivers to potential hazards on the road, such as consecutive turns ahead or falling rocks. These types of signs primarily aim to remind drivers to be cautious for safety. Electronic cameras generally do not capture violations related to such signs.
Direction signs are various road signs erected along the roadside, informing you of the nearby roads. Many drivers are not accustomed to looking at these signs. In fact, when you go to a place, first figure out which road it is on, and then combine it with the direction signs to avoid taking the wrong road. Many traffic violations occur when drivers take the wrong road and have to make U-turns or forced turns.
Direction signs are signs that indicate information such as the direction of car travel, such as left turn lanes, straight lanes, and right turn lanes, all of which contain arrows indicating the direction of travel. Drivers must follow the direction indicated by the arrows. When approaching an intersection, it is important to observe clearly in advance to avoid taking the wrong lane. Some drivers, who intend to go straight, end up taking the left turn lane and either cross the solid line to change lanes or drive straight from the left turn lane, both of which are easily caught by traffic cameras.
5. Pay attention to traffic rules
For example, when turning, one should yield to vehicles going straight, and when making a left turn, one should approach the center of the intersection and take a wide turn. These are the most basic traffic rules. It's just that electronic cameras that can capture such violations are rare in daily life, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Especially when traveling to other places, one should be as careful as possible.
For example, the image above shows a violation of "driving on the left turn lane without approaching the intersection center", while the image below shows a violation of "failing to yield to a pedestrian crossing".
If you strictly adhere to the above conditions, you definitely won't be caught on camera. However, in reality, no one can ensure that there are no issues at all when driving. I believe that following the rules to avoid being caught on camera is one aspect, and another crucial factor is to have "good judgment". Some road sections don't have electronic cameras, so even if you occasionally make a mistake, it's hard to get caught. But some road sections have prohibition signs every few meters, with rows of electronic cameras overhead monitoring from all directions without any blind spots. Clearly, these are "strictly managed streets". At this time, you need to behave properly and honestly. However, some drivers just can't read the situation and still drive recklessly, so they deserve to get caught.
